Hay una historia fascinante alrededor del cantante de ópera más grande de todos los tiempos: Caruso. Empieza muchos años después de su muerte. Un día el compositor Lucio Dalla paseaba por Sorrento y su yate encalla. Obligado a pasar la noche ahí, se hospeda en el mejor hotel de la paradisiaca ciudad italiana.
Por la noche sale a la terraza del hotel, que tiene una de las vistas más maravillosas del mundo, queda la entrada del mar a tus pies. Le llama la atención un majestuoso piano que tiene como escenario la llegada de las olas. Pregunta si puede tocarlo. Recibe una respuesta más que fascinante.
“No es posible. Es el piano con el que tocó el maestro Enrico Caruso” Lucio Dalla se quedó sorprendido, fue entonces que escuchó la magnífica historia. “Era 1921, el maestro estaba hospedado aquí, deambulaba por los pasillos del hotel en silencio. Fue así hasta que una noche, sentado justo donde usted está, vio a una mujer hermosa: delgada, alta, de piernas torneadas, sin lugar a duda, su mirada era la más bella que había visto en su vida. La larga cabellera, enmarcaba con justicia su hermoso rostro. El maestro sonrió apenas la admiró. Había quedado prendado”.
“Fue así por una semana. Sí, una semana bastó para que se enamorara de ella, y ella de él. Las atenciones, los detalles, las palabras y las canciones lo hicieron posible. Cada segundo, cada minuto, lo había construido pensando en ella. Al séptimo día, el maestro Caruso mandó a poner el piano donde está ahora, quedando detrás de él el mar. Se sentó a darle un concierto. La chica, tenía de frente al gran Enrico Caruso y de fondo el mar. La potencia de la voz hizo que decenas de barcos se acercaran a escucharlo y con ello, iluminar la noche. Fue un espectáculo único. La bella mujer lloraba de la emoción, y es que tenía a sus pies, por el efecto de las embarcaciones, el más majestuoso cielo estrellado jamás visto, acompañado de la imponente voz del maestro. Estaba viviendo en un sueño”.
“Al día siguiente el gran Enrico Caruso murió. Estaba enfermo de cáncer y se había retirado al hotel de Sorrento para morir. Lo hizo sin saber que ahí lo esperaba su gran amor, sin saber que nunca es tarde para amar. Sus últimos siete días de vida fueron sus mejores siete días de vida, gracias a la chica. Lucio Dalla tomó lo narrado y escribió una de las canciones más bellas de todos los tiempos: Caruso. En ella relata la historia de amor entre el cantante y la bella mujer bajo la noche estrellada de Sorrento”.
Hay personas que cantan por amor, hay otras que escriben por amor. Hay mujeres que enamoran, pero solo unas pocas inspiran a cantarles o hacerles protagonistas de negro sobre blanco. Son musas destinadas a quedar plasmadas entre las páginas de un libro para la posteridad. Hay amores que obligan a no olvidar y es deber del artista plasmar sus historias para la eternidad.
